The Miami Dolphins are 0-2.
Miami suffered its second consecutive defeat to open the 2025 season with a 33-27 loss to Drake Maye and the New England Patriots on Sunday.
Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was picked off on fourth down late in the fourth quarter with Miami only trailing by three points.
Tagovailoa finished 26-of-32 for 315 yards and two touchdowns to go along with the interception, getting sacked five times.
While Tyreek Hill finished with a game-high 109 receiving yards on five catches, it wasn’t enough to secure a win.
Fans called out Tagovailoa, Hill and Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel following the defeat.
Meanwhile, Maye looked sharp in the pocket. The second-year passer finished 19-of-23 for 230 yards and two touchdowns without committing a turnover. He also picked up a third score on the ground.
New England held a one-point lead at halftime of Sunday’s contest, although the Dolphins responded with a pair of field goals in the third quarter to jump back in front.
Both teams continued to trade scores, highlighted by a kickoff return touchdown by Patriots running back Antonio Gibson immediately following a punt return touchdown from Dolphins wide receiver Malik Washington.
In the end, New England’s defense came up with multiple key stops to prevent Miami from tying the game.
The Dolphins were unable to do the same defensively, as the Patriots amassed 333 total yards as a team while averaging 6.1 yards per play. They also converted seven of their 12 opportunities on fourth down.
