MINNEAPOLIS — Hitting an efficient .398 in a match that took just 71 minutes to complete, the Augsburg University volleyball team earned its first victory for new head coach Jay Kam in a three-set sweep of Bethany Lutheran College on Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg hit .398 as a team in the match, with 44 kills against 11 attack errors in 83 attempts. The Auggies also passed the ball well, with a .912 reception average (five receiving errors in 52 attempts), and claimed nine service aces in the win. Augsburg hit .545 (14 kills, two errors in 22 attempts) in the first set, and maintained a strong attack in the final two sets.
• Outside hitter Ava Carlson (SO, Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet HS) continued her strong start to the year, with a career-high 17 kills on a career-best .560 attack percentage, with just three errors in 25 swings. She tied a career-high with four service aces, while adding eight digs and a block assist.
• Fourteen different Auggies saw game action, with nine recording at least one kill.
• Sierra Washington (SR, Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) had five kills with two block assists, Elizabeth Oster (JR, Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji HS) had five kills, hitting .444, with a service ace. Taliah Triggs (SO, Moorhead, Minn./Moorhead HS) had five kills, two service aces and three digs.
• Jovial King (SO, Caledonia, Minn./Caledonia HS) had 35 assists for the Auggies, and libero Maggie Lile (JR, Spring Grove, Minn./Spring Grove HS) had seven digs.
FOR THE FOES
• Lexiss Trygg and Lilly Mehrkens had eight kills each to lead Bethany Lutheran, with Mehrkens adding five digs.
• Abby Distad had 26 assists.
