The group stage round of the Asia Cup 2025 came to a conclusion on Friday, when India beat Oman in Abu Dhabi. With no break, the Super 4 round will commence on Saturday in Dubai, where Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will clash.
This will be the second meeting between these two sides in the Asia Cup 2025 as they had faced off during their Group B game as well. But the most-anticipated, high-stakes fixture in the Super 4 stage will take place on Sunday between arch-rivals India and Pakistan, also in Dubai.
India had beaten Pakistan in their Group A match, but that fixture is remembered for the no-handshake row that triggered days of drama involving the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), match referee Andy Pycroft, and the ICC.
In the Group A, India clean swept with victories over the UAE, Pakistan, and Oman. Pakistan defeated Oman and the UAE on either side of their defeat at the hands of India. The UAE vs Oman match went in favor of the UAE, who ended the tournament with a solitary victory; Oman returned home with zero points.
From Group A, India and Pakistan progressed to the Super 4 round of the Asia Cup. And from Group B, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh reached Super 4.
Sri Lanka made three successful run chase in three games in the group stage, beat Bangladesh, Hong Kong, and Afghanistan.
Both Bangladesh and Afghanistan started their Asia Cup campaigns with wins over Hong Kong. Bangladesh then lost to Sri Lanka, but in a must-win game against Afghanistan, they prevailed by only eight runs. Afghanistan lost their must-win fixture against Sri Lanka and were eliminated, so were Hong Kong, who lost all three of their outings.
