AJ Styles has officially doubled down on his retirement timeline—and this time, heâ€s made it clear the end is near.
During the kickoff show for WWE Crown Jewel, the Phenomenal One opened up about why 2026 will mark the end of his in-ring career, citing age, family, and the desire to go out with pride. Styles admitted that time is finally catching up to him. While heâ€d love nothing more than to keep competing forever, heâ€s not willing to risk becoming a shadow of himself in the ring.
“Iâ€m getting old, folks. Listen, if I could find the fountain of youth and take a couple of sips, Iâ€d wrestle for the rest of my life. But you know, I am getting older, and the fear of embarrassing myself is getting closer.â€
He also emphasized that life outside the ring is pulling at him more and more. Styles said itâ€s time to take care of his loved ones and enjoy the life heâ€s built through decades in wrestling.
“There comes a time in a manâ€s life when he has to take care of business, but when business is done, itâ€s time to take care of his family. I need to spend time with my family. The whole idea of wrestling and having an amazing future in this business is to be able to retire one day, and in 2026, I will retire.â€
Styles has been a major force in WWE and across the wrestling world for decades, known for defying time with every performance. While fans are heartbroken that heâ€s planning to walk away next year, thereâ€s still time for a few final dream matches—including his showdown with John Cena at Crown Jewel.
