The Undertaker had many incredible matches in his illustrious career, but none came closer to perfection than his WWE WrestleMania 25 outing against Shawn Michaels.
During a recent appearance on Tom Seguraâ€s 2 Bears, 1 Cave podcast, the WWE Hall of Famer was asked to name the match from his career that he is most fond of. Taker paused for a moment before identifying the iconic WrestleMania 25 bout against Shawn Michaels as the one he is most proud of.
“So the match Iâ€m probably (most fond of) as far as a wrestling purist kind of matches, would have to be WrestleMania 25, Shawn Michaels,†Taker said. “That was as close to perfect as I ever got, right? I mean, it was just one of those things in the moment (looks at the screen). Yeah, that was at Reliant Stadium in Houston. I was probably around 305 lbs there, and Shawn is probably one of the greatest, if not the greatest, in-ring talents ever.
“In this match, we were both in our forties—late in both of our careers. So, we had this one at WrestleMania 25. We came back and ran it back at WrestleMania 26. The stipulation was his career against the streak, which at that point was my selling point. It was the WrestleMania undefeated streak.â€
The Undertaker explains what wrestling is about
“Then I went from these two matches to two matches in a row with Triple H, which is… Shawn and Triple H are really close. It was like a four-year story that unfolded. But WrestleMania 25, in my opinion, we were able not only to be athletic and show all that but also to tell a story. And thatâ€s what wrestling is about. Itâ€s about the story.
“Wrestling is kind of a soap opera with violence. Thatâ€s the hard part for a lot of guys to understand and really grasp. Yeah, itâ€s about the wrestling, but at its core, itâ€s storytelling. We use the wrestling to help tell the story. And this match was as close to perfect on all fronts as you could get. To have the audience emotionally connected—look at the size discrepancy—they all thought there was a chance I was losing for the first time at WrestleMania in this match.â€
