John Cena is known as the Greatest Of All-Time, a feat which he has earned after years and years of hard work and dedication. He made his official debut in the WWE on June 27, 2002, on an episode of WWE SmackDown. On his debut night, he stood face-to-face against one of the biggest WWE superstars of all time, Kurt Angle. He came out and said that he possesses “Ruthless Aggression”. His initial WWE career was a failure, and it almost led to him being fired from the company.
However, on a bus tour, Stephanie McMahon saw that John Cena was very good at rapping, so WWE decided to give him a new character named The Doctor of Thuganomics. This character was the main reason that ultimately led Cena to become the biggest WWE Superstar of all time.
Cena is also the only wrestler in the history of WWE to have won the WWE World Championships 17 times. Over the years, he has had many memorable rivalries in WWE with many top WWE superstars, including CM Punk, The Rock, Randy Orton, and the Rated “R” Superstar, Edge. However, in 2015, he transitioned into a part-time WWE wrestler and shifted his focus towards Hollywood. Cena has acted in many blockbuster movies and TV shows, including Ricky Stanicky, Fast and Furious, Barbie, and a recent cameo in Superman 2025. Cena is also the main lead in a DC show, named Peacemaker.
Cena made a shocking return at the Money in the Bank 2024 Premium Live Event in Toronto, Canada, and during this event, he announced that he will be retiring at the end of 2025. His official retirement tour began on WWE Raw’s first-ever episode on Netflix. During his retirement tour, he has won the WWE Championship for the 17th time and has also delivered many memorable moments, including dropping his own version of the “Pipe-bomb” on CM Punk. Cena wrestled his last SmackDown match against Sami Zayn on September 5, 2025, and he wrestled his last WWE Raw match on November 18, 2025, which was a six-man tag team match.

1. Becoming a Grand Slam Champion
One of the biggest moments in Cena’s WWE Raw career took place on November 11, 2025. Cena appeared on WWE Raw for the last time in his hometown of Boston, Massachusetts. During this show, Cena was interrupted by Dominik Mysterio, which ultimately led to an Intercontinental Championship match between these two. John Cena shocked everyone at the TD Garden by defeating Dominik and becoming the Intercontinental Champion. This was a huge moment for Cena, as the IC title was the only remaining championship that he had not won in his legendary career. However, after defeating Dominik, he officially became a Grand Slam Champion.

After Cena turned heel at the Elimination Chamber 2025, he kicked off the Raw after Elimination Chamber. During this promo, Cena explained his actions. After Brock Lesnar shockingly returned to the WWE after a decade, and attacked Cena. On April 9, 2012, we saw one of the best Raw endings af all time, where Cena and Lesnar engaged in a Brawl, which seemed real and very personal. During this brawl, we also saw Lesnar busting Cena’s lip with his elbow, and his mouth was full of blood, which was a very rare sight, as WWE back then was very strict on the TV-PG rating. This segment ended when the entire WWE locker room came out to separate Lesnar and Cena from attacking each other.
4. The Nexus Vortex
John Cena had a very memorable rivalry with The Nexus during 2010-11. This rivalry started on June 7, 2010, when Cena was in the main event of Raw, and he was attacked by eight new wrestlers from NXT, led by Wade Barrett. Cena assembled his team and went on a 7-on-7 Elimination Tag Team match at SummerSlam 2010, where Cena survived as the last man standing.
After that, Cena faced Wade Barrett at Hell in a Cell 2010; the stipulation for this match was that if Cena lost, he would have to join the Nexus. Cena lost the match and joined the group, and was forced to obey Wade Barrett. As per the storyline, Wade Barrett’s tactics caused WWE to fire Cena; however, even after being fired, Cena would appear on every show and attack every member of the Nexus until he got officially re-hired.
5. Last Raw Appearance
On November 18, 2025, John Cena appeared on WWE Raw for the last time in his career. This show took place at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
