John Cena turned babyface just before SummerSlam as he ended a months-long run as a heel. While many people wondered why he changed in the first place, Cena has admitted that fan reaction led to his returning to being a babyface.

While speaking during the Clash in Paris post show, John Cena was asked if he was happy going back to being a babyface, the version of Cena fans know and love. He explained that his goal has always been to entertain the audience as best as possible, which sometimes means taking risks and making bold choices.

However, he pointed out that it’s also important to listen to the fans. He noted that during his matches against Randy Orton, CM Punk in Saudi Arabia, and Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam, the reactions shifted and the energy of the crowd made it clear that changes were needed.

John Cena said that while bold moves can be exciting, going against the energy of the audience is a losing battle, so it’s sometimes necessary to pivot and change direction.

“Well, the John Cena we all know and love—keep in mind, we try to entertain the audience as best as we can. Sometimes that involves taking risks and being bold. But you also have to listen to the audience. It got to a point that Cena vs. Randy, you start hearing this; Cena vs. Punk in Saudi, you start hearing the noise; Cena vs. Cody at SummerSlam, it changes. Sometimes you can make bold and brave new moves, but going against this body of energy is a losing battle. So sometimes you gotta listen, pivot, and change course.”

John Cena also defeated Logan Paul at the Clash in Paris Premium Live Event. With Wrestlepalooza on the horizon, we’ll have to see how WWE will book Cena in the coming weeks, as it’s clear the company will have big plans for Cena.

Do you think John Cena made the right choice by turning babyface again? Sound off in the comments.
