The banged-up Vancouver Canucks will be getting their captain back on the ice sooner than later.
Hughes missed Friday’s game with an undisclosed injury.
The 26-year-old star defenceman has already missed time this season, sitting out four games (Oct. 26 – Nov. 1) with a lower-body injury. Vancouver is 2-3 without its captain in the lineup.
Hughes registered one goal and 13 assists in 14 games this season, while averaging a career-high 27 minutes per night.
Meanwhile, some injured forwards have resumed skating.
Filip Chytil, who was placed on the injured reserve on Oct. 20 following an open-ice hit from the Capitals’ Tom Wilson, is progressing from his upper-body injury.
The 26-year-old has a history of head injuries and missed the end of the 2024-25 season after suffering a concussion in March. He played only 10 games in the 2023-24 season with the Rangers after sustaining a concussion in November.
Allvin added that Chytil is feeling better, but did not provide a return timeline.
Teddy Blueger is also making progress in his recovery, but Allvin stated he thinks the forward is still week-to-week. Blueger has missed 13 games this season with a lower-body injury.
The two forwards combined to play in just eight games this season, with a total of four goals.
With the injuries up front, newly-signed centre David Kampf joined the team in Tampa Bay on Sunday, although he is not expected to play. Kampf signed a one-year deal with the Canucks on Saturday.
Allvin also confirmed starting goalie Thatcher Demko is out week-to-week after he suffered a lower-body injury on Nov. 11. The netminder made 10 starts this year, sporting a 2.80 goals-against average with a .903 save percentage.
