Former world and Commonwealth champion and three-time Paralympic medallist Ross Wilson has announced his retirement from table tennis.

The three-time Paralympic medallist made the announcement in a post on Instagram, bringing an end to a career which had some incredible highs.

The 30-year-old from Kent had success on the international front soon after his debut in 2011, winning Paralympic bronze at London 2012 in the Men’s Class 6-8 Team event.

It was a feat he repeated in Rio in 2016, before having his finest year in 2018, when in April he won gold in the menâ€s class 6-10 singles at the Commonwealth Games in Australia and later became menâ€s class 8 world champion.

Despite injury problems, he recovered to win another Paralympic team bronze at Tokyo 2020.

Wilson’s Instagram post read: “After 23 amazing years in table tennis, itâ€s time for me to say goodbye to playing the sport I love.

“Table tennis has been such a huge part of my life. For 15 of those years, Iâ€ve had the incredible honour of representing Great Britain, which is something Iâ€ll always be so proud of.

“This sport has taken me all over the world, given me friendships that will last a lifetime, and memories Iâ€ll never forget.

“Itâ€s been an incredible chapter, and while itâ€s not easy to close this one, Iâ€m really looking forward to seeing what comes next.”
