WorldofVolley :: ITA W: Serie A1 kicks off – Milano & Novara perfect; thrillers everywhere

The Serie A1 Tigotà opener delivered instant drama in a rare Monday Night featuring all 14 teams. Only two sides swept 3–0; Numia Vero Volley Milano and Igor Gorgonzola Novara.

In Monzaâ€s Opiquad Arena, Milano owned the Lombardy derby over Bergamo (25–19, 25–20, 25–23). New captain Paola Egonu stamped MVP status right away with 25 points at 55% efficiency, backed by Lanier (14) and Piva (10). Bergamo fought behind Montalvo (16) and Kipp (15), but hit just 25% overall.

Novara stayed flawless in Cervia, welcoming Omag-MT San Giovanni in Marignano to the top flight with a composed sweep (16–25, 23–25, 23–25). MVP Tolok led with 16, while Igiede added eight at 55%. Piovesan (14) paced the hosts.

Full points too—though dropping a set—for Savino Del Bene Scandicci and Reale Mutua Fenera Chieri. Scandicciâ€s Ekaterina Antropova exploded for 30 (6 aces, 4 blocks) in a 3–1 at Wash4Green Monviso; Skinner chipped 16, and the Weitzel–Graziani duo stacked nine blocks. Chieri dominated Il Bisonte Firenze 3–1, powered by MVP Anna Gray and Stella Nervini (17 each), with Gray adding six blocks.

Three matches went the distance. Champions Imoco Conegliano survived UYBA in a comeback 3–2, fueled by MVP Isabelle Haakâ€s 34; Obossa lit up UYBA with 32. Megabox Vallefoglia edged Perugia 3–2—MVP Erblira Bici scored 16—while Honda Cuneo stole it in Macerata after trailing 0–2, riding MVP Bintu Diopâ€s 31 in a 16–14 fifth.
