A two-time WWE Champion reflected on his first title win, which was via Money in the Bank.
Over the years, several WWE stars have skyrocketed to fame thanks to the Money in the Bank concept. A title win almost seemed a guarantee until 2012, when John Cena unsuccessfully cashed in on CM Punk. However, Cena won the bout by disqualification.
One year later, The Franchise Player halted any momentum Damian Sandow may have had by defeating Sandow when he attempted a cash-in. This was how wrestling fans got disillusioned with the myth that every Money in the Bank contract win guaranteed a title reign.
These are things most of you may already know. But did you know The Miz was supposed to be the first?
The Miz Claims His WWE Character Was The Type Who Would Lose Money in the Bank Cash In
In a recent interview with Unlikely,The A-Lister revealed that back in 2010, he knew he was not winning gold as he was still green. But then, owing to some last-minute changes, WWE changed plans on the day of his cash-in.
I was the guy that was going to cash in and lose. That was just my trajectory, the first time, the first person to ever cash in and lose,†The Miz explained. “Thatâ€s something that The Miz would do, that is that character, that is what would happen.”
After dethroning Randy Orton, who was supremely over at the time, The A-Lister went on to feud against John Cena on The Grandest Stage of Them All. He made the most out of the hand he was dealt. A decade later, he did it again, cashing in the contract on Drew McIntyre.
The Miz and Randy Orton are also no strangers to one another, either, having wrestled numerous times, including premium live events.
