Stay up-to-date with all the latest news on injured players across Major League Baseball.

Will Smith, Roki Sasaki, Michael Kopech and Brusdar Graterol, Dodgers

Smith got another scan on his right hand that revealed a hairline fracture, manager Dave Roberts said Sept. 20. It’s unlikely he returns in the regular season, and his availability for the start of the postseason is “up in the air.”

After throwing a scoreless inning in his second relief outing with Triple-A Oklahoma City on Sept. 21, Sasaki (right shoulder impingement) will join the Dodgers in Arizona, although it’s not certain he’ll be activated.

Graterol (recovery from right shoulder surgery) will not return to pitch this season, Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman said Sept. 20.

Yordan Alvarez and Jeremy Peña, Astros

Alvarez has a significant left ankle sprain and was placed on the 10-day IL on Sept. 19. Manager Joe Espada said on Sept. 21 that he could join the team in Anaheim to end the season on Sept. 26-28.

Peña was scratched from the Sept. 21 lineup with left oblique soreness. There was no immediate word on how long Peña could be sidelined.

Brandon Woodruff, William Contreras, Trevor Megill and Logan Henderson, Brewers

Woodruff was placed on the 15-day IL on Sept. 21, retroactive to Sept. 18, with a right lat strain. He would be eligible to return during the NLDS, but the Brewers have yet to determine the likelihood of him pitching again in 2025.

Megill (right flexor strain) threw a bullpen session Sept. 20 in St. Louis. He’s likely to return no sooner than the final day of the regular season (Sept. 28) to make one final appearance before the postseason, although that would be the best-case scenario.

Henderson (right flexor tendon strain) threw an initial bullpen session on Sept. 17, and a return during the postseason remains in play.

Kyle Tucker, Daniel Palencia and Ryan Brasier, Cubs

Tucker (left calf strain) still had yet to resume running as of a Sept. 21 update, but the Cubs still hope to have him playing in games before the playoffs.

Palencia (right shoulder strain) and Brasier (left groin strain) will both be rejoining the Cubs in the coming days to determine their next steps.

Lugo (low back strain) has been shut down for the remainder of the 2025 season.

Herrera will have surgery this offseason to remove loose bodies in his sore right elbow with the hope of being back behind the plate in 2026.

Xander Bogaerts and Nestor Cortes, Padres

Bogaerts (left foot non-displaced fracture) played in two Minor League games at the Padres complex in Peoria, Ariz., and came out of them feeling good. He is expected to return for the start of the team’s final homestand beginning Sept. 22.

Cortes (left biceps tendinitis) reported feeling good after a two-inning simulated game on Sept. 19. He is expected to pitch in one more sim game early in the week of Sept. 22.

Ryan Jeffers and Pablo López, Twins

Jeffers (concussion) will travel with the team on their final road trip but has not been cleared to return to game action.

Austin Hays and Rhett Lowder, Reds

Lowder (right forearm strain/left oblique strain) was unable to make his second rehab start as scheduled on Sept. 19 due to his shoulder recovering poorly from his previous outing. He is expected to resume throwing in a few days.

Semien (left foot fracture) ran and took live batting practice on Sept. 19 and is still hopeful he can return during the final week of the regular season.

Bo Bichette, Chris Bassitt and Anthony Santander, Blue Jays

Bichette (left knee sprain) started light hitting and continues to improve daily. He will travel with the Blue Jays for the final homestand, making the updates in the coming days particularly important for his chances at playing in October.

Bassitt was placed on the 15-day injured list Sept. 20, retroactive to Sept. 19, with low back inflammation.

Santander (left shoulder inflammation) was expected to play two more games with Triple-A Buffalo on Sept. 20-21 before the Blue Jays make a decision on whether he can be activated.

Gelof (dislocated left shoulder) is expected to undergo shoulder surgery in L.A. during the week of Sept. 22. He should be fully recovered in time for 2026 Spring Training.

Newcomb was placed on the 15-day injured list with left elbow inflammation on Sept. 20, ending his season.

Rutschman (right oblique strain) is on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Norfolk and expects to return during the final week of the regular season.

Aranda (left wrist fracture) played in a “bridge league” game on Sept. 19 and could get a few more game at-bats the week of Sept. 22. How he feels then will determine if he returns during the final week of the regular season

Edward Cabrera and Griffin Conine, Marlins

Cabrera (right elbow sprain) is trending toward starting during the Sept. 23-25 series in Philadelphia, according to manager Clayton McCullough.

The Marlins will make a decision after Sept. 21 about whether to reinstate Conine (left shoulder surgery), per McCullough.

Means (left elbow UCL surgery recovery) made his seventh rehab start on Sept. 19 with Triple-A Columbus, throwing 84 pitches (52 strikes) over 5 1/3 innings of work.

Tylor Megill, Tyrone Taylor and Reed Garrett, Mets

Megill (right elbow sprain) was still waiting on the results of a consultation regarding Tommy John surgery as of Sept. 21.

Taylor (left hamstring strain) is expected to be activated from the 10-day injured list on Sept. 23 against the Cubs.

Colt Keith and Matt Vierling, Tigers

Keith was placed on the 10-day IL on Sept. 19 with right rib cage inflammation, which will keep him out at least for the remainder of the regular season. Once inflammation subsides and Keith can try some baseball activities, he should get a better idea about his chances to return.

Vierling (left oblique strain) resumed running and throwing but not hitting after experiencing renewed soreness in oblique after playing in a Sept. 12 rehab game for Triple-A Toledo.

Robert Stephenson and Kenley Jansen, Angels

Stephenson was placed on the 15-day IL on Sept. 20 with right elbow inflammation after experiencing discomfort during his Sept. 19 outing. His season is over.

Jansen (heart condition) will skip the Angels’ three-game series in Colorado for precautionary reasons. He also skipped it last year when he was with the Red Sox.
