Rohan Dani took a doubles silver medal at the WTT Youth Contender in Batumi, Georgia, while there were singles quarter-final places for Dani and Max Radiven.

Dani and partner Prisha Goel of India made their way through four rounds in the Under-19 Mixed Doubles, including beating the fourth seeds in the quarter-finals and then the top seeds in the semi-finals.

That semi-final win showed their fighting qualities as they recovered from losing the first game to Abdulla Mamay & Noila Khaniyazova of Kazakhstan and later came back from 10-6 down in the fourth to win it 14-12 and go through to the final.

They faced second seeds (and the respective singles top seeds), Alan Kurmangaliyev of Kazakhstan & Karolina Holda of Poland, for the gold medal and although the first two games were close, the higher-ranked pair shaded them and went on to seal a 3-0 (12-10, 11-9, 11-5) triumph.

Dani, ranked No 159 in the world on the Junior list, reached the quarter-finals of the Under-19 Boys’ Singles, defeating compatriot Radiven in the last 16. His run ended at the hands of fourth seed and world No 53 Gorkem Ocal of Turkey.

Abraham Sellado (WR 221) went out in the last 32 to Adam Smoter of Poland (WR 173). At the same stage, Radiven (WR 305) had a great win over Thomas Laroche of France (WR 82), in three straight.

In the Under-17s, Radiven reached the quarter-finals with another good win, in the last 16 over Smoter, ranked 132 places above him at 173. He was then knocked out by top seed Ocal.

Dani went out in the last 16 to Ylyas Allanazarov (WR 261) of Turkmenistan, while Sellado exited to Turkey’s Berk Oztoprak (WR 174) despite having led 2-0.
