Shaquille Webb-Dixon was a double winner as the Sussex 4* filled out the popular K2 venue in Crawley with some high-class competition.
The sold-out event saw Webb-Dixon (pictured above) claim the band 1 title on Saturday and, as fifth seed, the Men’s Singles on Sunday.
Ewelina Sychta, seeded third, won the Women’s Singles, while Lorestas Trumpauskas was the Veterans’ champion and the other singles champions on Sunday were Umair Mauthoor, Rebecca Savage and Rikuto Morota.

It was an all-Fusion final in the Men’s Singles as Webb-Dixon beat Larry Trumpauskas 3-1 (11-5, 11-9, 10-12, 11-5) to take the title.
Webb-Dixon had also beaten a familiar face in the semi-finals, seeing off another club-mate, Josh Bruce, 3-1 (11-8, 11-8, 11-13, 11-6).
Trumpauskas came through the top-half semi-final 3-0 (4, 9, 2) against Israel Awolaja – but earlier he nearly went out in the last 32, turning around his clash with Angad Saggu from 2-1 down. Trumpauskas eventually won it 3-2 (10-12, 11-9, 1-11, 11-9, 11-8).
Awolaja had to come from behind in both the round of 16 and the quarter-finals – first beating Niall Cameron 3-2 (10-12, 11-6, 9-11, 11-6, 11-9) and then Nahom Asgedom 3-2 (2-11, 6-11, 11-8, 11-9, 11-9).
Ewelina Sychta
The Women’s Singles was won by Ewelina Sychta, who shaded a tight match with Patricia Ianau 3-0 (11-9, 13-11, 11-9).
Ianau defeated Mia Lakhani 3-0 (11-6 11-7, 11-9) in the semi-finals – Lakhani had beaten leading veteran Sara Williams 3-2 (11-9, 5-11, 11-9, 5-11, 11-9) in the quarters.
In the bottom half, Sychta overcame local favourite Letitia McMullan 3-1 (11-6, 6-11, 12-10, 11-5) in the semis, having earlier battled past Rebecca Savage 3-2 (8-11, 11-4, 10-12, 11-8, 11-9) in the quarter-finals.
Lorestas Trumpauskas
England No 1 Lorestas Trumpauskas duly won the Veteran Singles with few alarms, culminating in beating Paul Carter 3-0 (11-4, 11-6, 11-6) in the final.
Carter had an eventful semi-final against Mirea Neagu, recovering a 2-0 deficit to win 3-2 (6-11, 12-14, 11-6, 12-10, 11-7). Trumpauskas was much more serene in getting past Eric Hammond 8, 7, 3.
Umair Mauthoor
In the Restricted Singles, Umair Mauthoor withstood a comeback by Jack Bennett to win the final 3-2 (11-6, 11-7, 9-11, 9-11, 11-5).
Bennett could console himself with family bragging rights as he defeated younger brother Josh 3-1 (11-8, 12-10, 9-11, 11-9) in the semi-finals. Mauthoor also needed four against Nahom Asgedom, winning their semi 11-9, 12-14, 13-11, 11-6).
Rebecca Savage beat Calina Dawson in a close 3-0 scoreline (8, 9, 9) to take the Under-21 Women’s Singles title.
Dawson had worked hard to get into the final, coming from 2-0 down to beat Saskia Key 3-2 (9-11, 7-11, 13-11, 15-13, 11-7). Savage’s semi-final victory was 3-1 (11-5, 11-7, 8-11, 11-7) over Evie Knaapen.
Rikuto Morota took the Under-21 Boys’ Singles title with a 3-0 (12-10, 11-7, 12-10) win over Francesco Bonato, but there were some eye-catching results earlier in the competition.
Both finalists won in a deciding game in the semi-finals – Morota 3-2 (8-11, 11-7, 11-4, 1-11, 11-9) against Larry Trumpauskas and Bonato 3-2 (9-11, 11-8, 11-8, 6-11, 11-6) over Kacpwer Piwowar.
Bonato beat Sam Casebourne 3-2 (11-9, 11-6, 9-11, 10-12, 11-7) in the quarters, and at the same stage Piwowar defeated Harrison Hill 3-2 (9-11, 11-4, 11-7, 12-14, 11-2). Morota also needed five to get past Brandon Sangchin in the last 16.
Banded competitions
Shaquille Webb-Dixon set up the first leg of his weekend double as he beat Mircea Neagu 3-0 (11-9, 11-5, 11-8) in the Men’s Band 1 final.
Webb-Dixon was relatively untroubled in the semis, where he saw off Israel Awolaja (3, 3, 6), while Neagu needed four to get the better of Wajd Wafiq (7, -8, 6, 6).
Women’s Band 1 went to Tiana Dennison, whose fine comeback against Rebecca Savage resulted in a 3-2 (6-11, 6-11, 11-6, 11-7, 11-5) triumph. The semi-finalists were Sara Williams, beaten by Dennison, and Evie Knaapen, defeated by Savage.
Men’s Band 2 saw Kacper Piwowar emerge victorious, the young England international overcoming Martynas Matuzevius 3-1 (12-10, 11-6, 9-11, 11-4) in the final.
Both semi-finals were done in four as Piwowar beat Rikuto Morota and Matuzevius saw off Jamal Dennison.
The round-robin Women’s Band 2 was won by Rebecca Savage, who lost one of six matches, going down 3-2 (5-11, 9-11, 11-9, 11-7, 11-6) to Aneta Kula.
Sorting out the runner-up was more difficult as four players finished with three wins and three defeats – and Kula was not among them, despite her win over Savage.
When the calculations had been made, Holly Holder took second ahead of Ivy Chan, Evie Knaapen and Tulay Dundar.
There were quite a few close matches – Kula lost to Holder 18-16 in the fifth and also to Saskia Key in a decider, while Holder beat Knaapen but lost to Dundar and Key, all in the fifth.
Dundar did come out on top in Women’s Band 3, though, coming from behind to see off the challenge of Polina Shcherbakova 3-2 (7-11, 11-9, 9-11, 11-8, 11-9) in the final.
Dundar defeated Kelsey Fordham in three in the semi-finals, where it was the same margin for Shcherbakova against Molly Brown.
The Men’s Band 3 champion was Sinan Surensoy, who won 12-10 in the fifth as he just about withstood Rikuto Morota’s comeback. The final score was 3-2 (11-7, 11-6, 2-11, 4-11, 12-10).
In the semis, Surensoy’s beaten opponent was Jack Boult and Morota got past Nishil Shah.
Women’s Band 4 was won by Band 3 runner-up Polina Shcherbakova, who overcame Chloe Kniep 3-1 (11-9, 11-7, 10-12, 11-7) in the final. Shcherbakova beat Kelsey Fordham 3-0 (11-5, 13-11, 11-7) in the semi-finals, while Kniep defeated Rhoda Boadu 3-1 (11-6, 10-12, 11-6, 11-6).
Men’s Band 4 saw Percy Collino overcome Oscar Nikolli in the final by a 3-1 (12-14, 12-10, 11-6, 11-5) scoreline.
There were three-set wins in the semi-finals for Collino over Noah Byrne-Smith and Nikolli over Theo Kniep.
Nikolli did win Men’s Band 5, however, and was dominant in the final, beating Luke Rickett 3-0 (11-1, 11-1, 11-3). The beaten semi-finalists were Arnev Sharma, who lost to Nikolli in three, and Diminik Hilger, beaten in four by Rickett.
The Men’s Band 6 winner was Rishaan Sawant, who overcame Oli Ferrin-Thorne 3-1 (12-10, 11-7, 5-11, 12-10).
In the semi-finals, Sawant beat Mateusz Niedzielak 3-0 (6, 3, 6) and Ferrin-Thorne won 3-0 (9, 9, 9) against Liyan Aziz.
