The International Cricket Councilâ€s (ICC) Preamble – Spirit of Cricket, included in the T20I Playing Conditions, clearly states: “Congratulate the opposition on their success, and enjoy those of your own team. Thank the officials and your opposition at the end of the match, whatever the result.†Furthermore, Article 2.1.1 of the ICC Code of Conduct lists “conduct that is contrary to the spirit of the game†as a Level 1 offence.
While no official sanction has been announced, experts suggest that denying handshakes could technically be deemed a breach, though penalties for such infractions are usually mild — ranging from warnings to small fines.Suryakumar Yadav defended the decision, stressing that the teamâ€s action was aligned with directives from the Indian government and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). “We are aligned with the government and Board of Control for Cricket in India,†said Yadav, who guided India home with an unbeaten 47.
On the field, India dominated the contest. Left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav ripped through Pakistanâ€s batting with figures of 3/18, restricting them to 127/9.
