The club is describing it as a “tweak”, Fairburn reported. Training camp is scheduled to start next week.
The news comes less than 24 hours after the Sabres signed goaltender Alexandar Georgiev to a one-year, $825,000 contract. Fairburn says the move was in part made as a result of the injury to Luukkonen.
After signing a five-year extension with the Sabres last off-season, Luukkonen struggled during the 2024-25 season (3.20 goals-against average, .887 save percentage).
The team signed Alex Lyon as a likely backup to Luukkonen in the off-season and also has prospect Devon Levi, who has been inconsistent in his time in the NHL.
The Sabres are on a league-leading 14-year playoff drought.
