Just about every company that has a product used on the PGA Tour has a Tour representative responsible for getting that product in a player’s hand.

Some are more well-known, like those for the big OEMs like Callaway, Ping, TaylorMade and Titleist, working on dialing in their staff players for the golf clubs. But there are also reps like Charles Woodward, who carries seven different brands on the PGA Tour, from Softspikes to Bushnell rangefinders, and he’s been doing it for two decades now.

On this week’s episode of GOLF’s Fully Equipped, Woodward looked back on his time on the PGA Tour and revealed what’s changed most about his job.

“I think probably the biggest change is the number of team members that players have with them,” Woodward said. “When I first came out, there was nobody using launch monitors, really. I mean, maybe a little bit of Trackman, but it was a very slow process.

“And then you might see a swing coach here or there, but I mean, guys 1757097970 have their managers, they have a swing coach, mental coach. It’s truly remarkable. And then even the way things are handled behind the scenes with how equipment companies interact with players, and the different reps from different companies has changed too.”

Woodward said when players test shafts now, a rep from the shaft company will provide the shaft, but it’s the reps from the OEM and the rest of the player’s entourage that will handle the testing process.

This is something Fully Equipped co-host Johnny Wunder has noticed too and he said the shift really began just in the last 5-10 years. He pointed out one golfer he knows who travels with four or five people who are there to service just him.

“It’s funny to hear that the times have changed so much from 2005, like, you know, I remember having a coach, if you’re a PGA Tour player and if you had a coach that traveled with you week to week, that was like a big story,” Wunder said.

For more from Woodward, Wunder and fellow co-host Jake Morrow, you can listen to the full episode of GOLF’s Fully Equipped here or watch it below.
