WWE SmackDown in Chicago could end up being a massive event on Friday night as a major name is reportedly going to be in town.
John Cena is scheduled to appear on Friday’s episode of WWE SmackDown. It’s being advertised as his final WWE appearance in Chicago. A new report suggests that it could also be his final appearance on SmackDown before he retires.
CM Punk is also expected to appear on this week’s show, although his appearance has not been confirmed yet. Punk’s appearance has fans speculating that this will also lead to AJ Lee’s long-awaited return. Multiple outlets have reported that AJ will finally return to the ring for a tag team match pitting her and Punk against the husband and wife combination of Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch.
Now, a new report suggests that another major name is expected to be in Chicago this week.
According to a new report from Fightful (via Fightful Select), Brock Lesnar is scheduled to travel to Chicago this week. Sources in WWE claim that Lesnar, who was last seen attacking Cena at SummerSlam in New Jersey, “was discussed as a possibility for the show.”
Fightful did not confirm Lesnar will appear on SmackDown, but he is believed to be in Chicago as of Thursday. If he appears, it would likely be to build towards a match against Cena. The two are currently scheduled to compete at WWE WrestlePalooza on September 20. However, that match has not been publicly confirmed yet. Lesnar is also advertised for two other episodes of SmackDown on September 12 and 19.
In addition to John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar, Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com is reporting that another scheduled match for WrestlePalooza will feature Cody Rhodes vs. Drew McIntyre.
