WWE Legend Lost 60 Pounds To Play Infamous Gimmick

A WWE legend has opened up about losing a considerable amount of weight to play an infamous character.

Speaking on Wrestling Epicenter, Barry Darsow, whoâ€s well-known for his time in WWE/WWF as Demolition Smash, recalled portraying the Repo Man character. He said that while he knew he wouldnâ€t be as big as Hulk Hogan or the Ultimate Warrior, he enjoyed playing the gimmick because he got to work with some top stars.

“I loved it. I was at the point of my career where I didnâ€t need to be a top guy. But, I knew I was going to be a part of everything and I was going to get to work with the top workers. But, I knew I wasnâ€t going to be the next Hulk Hogan, Ultimate Warrior, or Bret Hart. But, again, I knew I was going to be a part of everything and I knew that if I did it right, I might even be able to turn baby face. I think I fooled a lot of people… I donâ€t think everybody knew who the heck I was. The way I portrayed that gimmick was really important to me because it worked.â€

He then revealed that he had to lose 60 pounds to differentiate between the Repo Man and his Demolition character.

“I was 320 pounds when I was Smash in Demolition. I was 260 pounds when I was The Repo Man. I wanted it to be a different character which it was.â€

Barry Darsow Recently Talked About Meeting CM Punk At The WWE Hall Of Fame Ceremony

During an interview with The A2theK Wrestling Show, Barry Darsow had high praise for new World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk, recalling the time he met The Straight Edge Superstar during a WWE Hall of Fame ceremony.

“Two years ago, we were invited to the Hall of Fame and WrestleMania. And we already had our schedule all fixed so we couldnâ€t go,†he said. “Then Vince left and Triple H came in. And when they asked us to go to the Hall of Fame to see it. We right away said yeah for sure, because Triple H was in there, and The Undertaker had a lot to do with it, so we were pretty excited to go there.

“When we got there, we didnâ€t know what to think because we havenâ€t really talked to anybody for 20 years. We get there, and we get off the elevator, and we get into a room where everybody is at; Triple H and his wife, Linda McMahon, (Nick) Khan, all the top guys are filming the pre-show before the Hall of Fame.

“The first person who greets us, I shouldnâ€t say the first one, but Stone Cold Steve Austin. Brother Love, Bruce Prichard, he sat and talked to us for about 15 minutes; he really set the tone and made us comfortable. Then right away, CM Punk comes over. I was never a CM Punk fan or anything, but after I sat and talked to him, he was a gentleman, he was incredible, and it was like wow, what a man he is.â€
