WWE fans do not want a specific star to be John Cena’s final opponent.
On last night’s episode of RAW, Adam Pearce announced the second set of competitors for the ongoing Last Time Is Now tour, the winner of which will have the distinct honor of being The Last Real Champion’s final opponent on the December 13 edition of Saturday Night’s Main Event.
One of the names drawn for the tournament was Gunther, who is making his return to television after 107 days. While he was earlier touted to be the favorite to be Cena’s last opponent, many fans took to X/Twitter to vehemently oppose this match-up,

Adam Pearce’s announcement started a storm on the social media platform, with many fans wanting to see Gunther take on John Cena, but an equal number of people opposing it. The main crux of fans’ complaints is that The Ring General does not have anything to gain by beating The Never Seen Seventeen and that he has already retired a legend in Goldberg.
I donâ€t know about yâ€all, but I donâ€t think GUNTHER should be the one to retire John Cena.
Heâ€s already been a world champion and even retired Goldberg this year.

Besides these, there were multiple tweets from fans expressing their frustration at the possible bout as they thought The Ring General did not have the skill to be worthy of being Cena’s final opponent. A fan account @DannyQ1970 tweeted:
“Definitely not. I donâ€t understand the love for Gunther. Yes, he is a talented wrestler, but he is one-dimensional, he is boring, he has zero charisma, and is useless on the mic.”

While another fan, @vinxhaley, expressed that the match-up would make them give up watching the product till WrestleMania.

A fan account @XavierLA824 stated that booking Gunther to beat Cena would be lazy and suggested that the chance be given to a rising talent such as Oba Femi.
Yesss. I donâ€t want Gunther to retire Cena. One, because I know that Cena would lose and two, it just seems lazy. I wish it could be edge but realistically give it to Oba.

Gunther is currently scheduled to face NXT star Je’Von Evans on the November 17 episode of RAW. How he will fare in the tournament remains to be seen.
