Who Have Won The Most Asia Cup Trophies

Who Have Won The Most Asia Cup Trophies?: The Asia Cup is the longest-running continental tournament in cricket. The inaugural Asia Cup was played in 1984 in Sharjah between only three teams—India, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan.

It was a short tournament in the round-robin format, with each nation playing the other once. India, under the captaincy of Sunil Gavaskar, won the inaugural Asia Cup trophy by beating both Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

The Asia Cup 2025 is the 17th edition of the men’s tournament. Oman are set to make their debut in the Asia Cup, becoming the ninth team to feature in this competition. In 2016, the first-ever T20I Asia Cup was played.

Apart from the major cricketing nations India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh, other teams that have featured in the Asia Cup over the years are Afghanistan, Nepal, UAE, and Hong Kong. But, only three different teams have managed to win the Asia Cup trophy, sharing the 16 titles among them.

Three Teams Who Have Won The Most Asia Cup Trophies:

3. Pakistan – 2

Pakistan have so far won only two Asia Cup titles out of the 16 tournaments hitherto. Pakistan won the Asia Cup in 2000 and 2012.

In the 2000 Asia Cup final, Pakistan, under Moin Khan’s leadership, beat Sri Lanka in the final in Dhaka. In the 2012 Asia Cup final, the Misbah-ul-Haq-led Pakistan thumped Bangladesh by only two runs to clinch the trophy in Mirpur.

Pakistan have been runner-up in three Asia Cups.

    2. Sri Lanka – 6

Sri Lanka have been the second-most successful team in the Asia Cup history with six titles to their name. Five of them are in the ODI format, and they have won the T20I Asia Cup in their cabinet.

Sri Lanka emerged victorious in six Asia Cup tournaments: 1986, 1997, 2004, 2008, 2014, and 2022 (T20I format). The Islanders have been runners-up a record seven times!
