Which Player Has R Ashwin Dismissed Most In IPL?

Which Player Has R Ashwin Dismissed Most In IPL: Legendary Indian spin bowler Ravichandran Ashwin announced his retirement from the IPL earlier today. This came as a shock to most fans but was something many had seen coming, given the veteran’s massive underperformance in the most recent season for the Chennai Super Kings.

With that being said, the Tamil Nadu native ended his Indian Premier League career as the fifth-highest wicket-taker in competition history. Ashwin took 187 wickets in 221 IPL matches across 17 seasons of the tournament from 2009 to 2025. These wickets came at an average of 30.22 and a strike rate of 25.18.

The wily off-spinner represented five teams in the IPL – the Super Kings, Delhi Capitals, Rising Pune Supergiants, Kings XI Punjab, and the Rajasthan Royals. While he spent most of his IPL career with CSK, he played crucial roles with KXIP and RR, being a major part of RR’s recent success and even serving as the captain of the Punjab-based franchise.

Which Player Has R Ashwin Dismissed Most In IPL?

Today, we will celebrate a very particular aspect of his incredible IPL legacy. Having taken almost 190 wickets across 17 seasons, Ashwin has dismissed some of the greatest batters to have played this league, cricketing superstars of the 21st century and men who defined the T20 game.

From Chris Gayle to Jos Buttler, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma. All these men, pioneers of the sport, were troubled by R Ashwin from time to time. His last wicket in the league was someone sure to be a big name in the coming years, teenage sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi.

But there is one batter who struggled against Ashwin more than most, that being former Indian Cricket Team wicketkeeper/batter Robin Uthappa. The Karnataka native played 205 matches in 15 seasons of the IPL, scoring 4952 runs at an average of 27.51 and a strike rate of 130.25. In 2014, as KKR won the IPL, Robin Uthappa, playing for the Knight Riders, was the Orange Cap winner.

In his time in the Indian Premier League, Uthappa played for the Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore (now Bengaluru), Pune Warriors India, Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals, and Chennai Super Kings.

In his 205 matches, Robbie directly faced Ashwin 15 times. On these 15 occasions, the spinner bowled 94 deliveries to the Robin, who scored 123 runs off them at a strike rate of 130.9, which is close to his IPL career strike rate.

However, Uthappa’s average while facing Ashwin was only 17.6, as he was dismissed a total of seven times, becoming the most commonly hunted batter by Ravichandran Ashwin in the IPL. When the two faced off against one another, they bowled 29 dots, hit seven 4s, and sent as many sixes sailing over the boundary ropes.

While Robin Uthappa today is a commentator and a cricketing pundit, no one knows what’s next for R Ashwin. The legendary bowler already analyses the game and shares his thoughts on his YouTube channel. But many speculate that he might tour around the world and play in other T20 leagues, something BCCI does not allow its players to do.
