The India vs South Africa Test series 2025 in India is going to be a compelling one as, despite some retirements of big-tickey players from both sides, the two units boasts of several other stars of the game.

India are on their journey under new leader Shubman Gill, while the Proteas remain fresh from the historic ICC World Test Championship victory earlier in the year when they beat Australia in the final at Lordâ€s.

Since then, both teams have played one series each. While India beat the West Indies at home by 2-0 scoreline, South Africa drew in Pakistan by 1-1, albeit in the absence of their inspirational captain Temba Bavuma, who missed the Pakistan tour due to an injury but is fit to feature and lead against India.

South Africa have not had fond memories of their Test tours to India in the past decade and a half. Their last Test match win in India came 15 years ago.

IND vs SA: When Was The Last Time South Africa Won A Test Match In India?

The last time South Africa won a Test match in India was in February 2010, in Nagpur, where India lost by an innings and six runs. Hashim Amla and Dale Steyn were the heroes for the Protea in that Test.

Batting first, Amla played a marathon knock, scoring 253* off 473 balls, and Jacques Kallis scored 173. South Africa ended their first innings on 558/6 declared.

In reply, India were bundled out for only 233 in their first innings. Virender Sehwag whacked 109 off 139 balls and S Badrinath scored 56, but no other batsman managed more than 15 runs. Steyn claimed the best innings bowling figures of his Test career, 7/51, as he terrorized the Indian batsmen with his swing and pace.

South Africa enforced the follow-on, but once again India were bowled out for a disappointing total, managing 319 runs, with Sachin Tendulkar top-scoring with 100 runs. Amla was the Man of the Match for his 253*.

India bounced back in the second Test of that series, winning by an innings in Kolkata, and drawing the series 1-1.

Since their last Test match win in India in 2010, South Africa have played eight matches and lost seven of them, with one match ending in a draw. This includes losing 3-0 in 2015 and 2019.

South Africa won the first Test match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai by four wickets, and the second in Bengaluru by an innings and 71 runs. Jacques Kallis was awarded the Player of the Series for his all-round contributions of 136 runs and five wickets.
