Everyone wants more power in their golf swing (myself included). With more power, the game becomes just a little bit easier.
The problem is, there’s no magic pill you can take to add more pop to your swing. If you really want to add yards to your game, you’ve got to be willing to put in the work.
Speed training and improved fitness are two of the most common ways you can increase your power, but you can also pursue a third method — enhanced technique.
In the video below, GOLF Top 100 Teacher Brian Mogg explains a simple tweak you can make in your swing that will help you improve your technique and add easy yards to your game.
To create power, you’ve got to produce proper load in your swing. And one way you can do that is through hinging your wrists correctly.
“Your wrists are a huge source of power in the swing,” Mogg says. “I see so many golfers that drag it, late set it, collapse it, and they wonder why they don’t hit it far enough.”
The answer is usually that they don’t know how to correctly hinge their wrists. So, how can you properly hinge your wrists? Mogg has a few tips.
“Feel like your thumbs point up [during the backswing],” Mogg says. “Feel like the grip handle points down. Feel like you create some wrinkles in your back hand. All three of those things create a really effective way of swinging.”
When you set your wrists in the backswing, the clubhead will begin to feel light. And with a light clubhead, you’ll be able to unload it and unleash some serious power.
“You golfers out there wanna hit it farther?” Mogg says. “You’ve gotta load your wrists.”
Do that, and you’ll discover power you never even knew you had.
