This top WWE star had Bray Wyatt demoted to the developmental ranks after an eye poke.
Before passing away in 2023, Wyatt had a colorful career in the Stamford-based promotion. He started as Husky Harris and was a member of The New Nexus from late 2010 to 2011. The son of Mike Rotunda (a.k.a IRS) was then sent back to FCW and was repackaged as Bray Wyatt in 2012.
The Eater of Worlds then went on to become WWE, WWE Universal, RAW, and SmackDown Tag Team Champion. He was rechristened as The Fiend in 2019, but was released in 2021, before returning in 2022.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, David Otunga recalled a moment during a tag match between Wyatt (then known as Harris) and Michael McGillicutty (aka Curtis Axel) against John Cena and Randy Orton on the October 18, 2010, episode of RAW. He disclosed that The Eater of Worlds allegedly made Cena furious after poking him in the eye.
“During this match, Husky Harris allegedly poked John Cena in the eye, allegedly. Cena went crazy crazy in this match. We get to the back, Cena goes crazy. He goes off, says, “We’re not ready.” He got poked in the eye. Like, it was bad. Again, I told you I wasn’t selling Cena anymore. I listened to the rant a little bit, but it was more aimed at [Windham] Husky Harris. So, I took a little bit. I walked off to the locker room like, “I’m not playing with you anymore,” Otunga shared.
The Harvard Law School alumnus then revealed that the alleged eye poke was the reason they got all sent back to the developmental system.
“I remember after I went to the locker room, Wendom was still getting chewed out. And then eventually like he came in the back and he was mad and he was like, “Man, I’m talking about he’s like it’s bad.” And he’s like, “I just found out.” He’s like, “We’re getting sent back to FCW.” I’m like, “Are you serious?” He’s like, “Yeah.” He’s like, “They told Joe [McGillicutty] and I like, you know, um, we’re not going to travel this week or whatever. Like, we got to go back to FCW.” And he’s like, and Windom knew I moved to Chicago. I was like, “Well, what did they say about me?” He goes, “I don’t know, man, you probably got to move back to Tampa.” And I remember him telling me that and I was like, so I kept expecting them to come talk to me and they didn’t. They didn’t say anything about moving. But then sure enough, he did get travel. Ended up having to go to FCW,” he added.
Former WWE Star David Otunga Says John Cena’s Accusation Led To The Bray Wyatt Character
As his recollection of his experiences with John Cena continued, David Otunga added that Husky Harris was almost close to getting fired after the alleged eye poke on the Last Real Champion.
The former WWE star revealed that it was in FCW where Harris developed the Bray Wyatt character, then credited Cena’s allegations as the fuel that created the legendary persona.
“While he was down there, he created Bray Wyatt and he he was there for like two years. But I remember when he came back and he debuted Bray Wyatt and just thinking, man, John Cena led to this, like, you know, going crazy about allegedly getting poked in the eye led to Windham going back to FCW and eventually coming up with Bray Wyatt and that was how he worked his way back up to the main roster,” Otunga said.
Thank you for everything, Bray Wyatt. â¥ï¸ðŸ•Šï¸ pic.twitter.com/EW2R4M9Pku

Otunga also stated that they didn’t really know if Wyatt’s poking Cena in the eye was true, but the latter still went off.
