Both Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner put together incredible 2025 seasons, although Alcaraz ended the year with the No. 1 spot in the ATP rankings.

The Spaniard was able to clinch the top ranking with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Lorenzo Musetti at the ATP Finals on Thursday.

“It means the world to me to be honest,” Alcaraz said after the victory (via ESPN). “The year No. 1 is always a goal. To be honest at the beginning of the year I saw that the No. 1 [was] really, really far away, with Jannik there, winning almost every tournament he plays.

“From the middle of the season till now I put the goal for the No. 1 because I thought it was there … and finally I got it. For me, it means everything, the work that we put every day during the whole season, up and downs … so I’m really proud about my team and myself.”

Alcaraz has now finished the year in the No. 1 spot twice in his career, previously doing so in 2022.

The 22-year-old owns a record of 67-8 this year, winning a Tour-leading eight titles. This includes Grand Slam victories at the US Open and Roland Garros.

As for Sinner, he’s posted a 53-6 record during his 2025 campaign to go along with five titles. His most notable victories came in the Australian Open as well as Wimbledon.

Sinner defeated Alcaraz to win the Wimbledon final, although Alcaraz ended the year with a 10-5 record in 15 matchups with the Italian. This included a thrilling comeback to win the men’s final at Roland Garros in five sets.
