Table Tennis England and British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) have strengthened their ties by agreeing to progress towards a Memorandum of Understanding which will bring BUCS players under the TTE umbrella for the first time.
BUCS is the national body for delivering competitive higher education sport in the UK, providing opportunities in 55 sports for over 100,000 athletes in more than 150 higher education institutions in the UK, with the ambition to deliver exceptional student sporting experiences that inspire, develop and unite.
The agreement will see Table Tennis England help to build upon the existing BUCS National Individual Championships, which takes place on 28-30 November 2025 at David Ross Sports Village, University of Nottingham.
The event attracts more than 450 competitors each year and has a fair claim to be the largest annual table tennis tournament in the UK.
Table Tennis England will regulate the event to the same general requirements and broad regulations as a Senior 4* Tournament in terms of officiating and physical environment. The event will be bound by Table Tennis England sanctions and suspensions, as well as becoming eligible for national rankings, while we will also be able to engage and communicate with a wider cohort of players in higher education.
Table Tennis Englandâ€s Head of Competitions and Events, Neil Rogers, said: “BUCS and TTE have worked hard to come together and announce this collaboration – the Memorandum of Understanding will establish important reciprocal frameworks for recognising and supporting sanctions, safeguarding and disciplinary between the two bodies.
“This is also a real opportunity to provide added value to the 250 or so BUCS players who are already TTE members, and to engage with the 200 who arenâ€t yet.â€
The news follows agreements between Table Tennis England and both Table Tennis Wales and the Jersey Table Tennis Association, which have seen the current Satellite Opens in Jersey and Wales also transition to the new regulated competitions framework this season.
Entries for the 2025-26 BUCS National Individual Championships are now open! Find out more, including how to enter, here (BUCS Eligibility criteria apply).
