Suryakumar Yadav Withdraws Run-Out Appeal, Shows Sportsmanship

The Spirit Of Cricket was invoked by fans and experts regarding Suryakumar Yadav’s decision to withdraw the run out appeal of UAE’s tailender Junaid Siddique during the IND vs UAE clash in Asia Cup 2025.

The 2025 Asia Cup got underway on Tuesday, and India began their campaign on Wednesday against the home team, UAE, in Dubai.

Leading into this match, India had lost 15 consecutive tosses in a row across formats. But finally, luck turned India’s way in the IND vs UAE clash as Suryakumar won the toss, and he promptly elected to bowl first.

India made light work of UAE’s batting order, bundling them out for merely 57 runs in 13.1 overs, with Kuldeep Yadav taking four wickets, Shivam Dube bagging a three-wicket haul, and Bumrah, Axar, and Chakravarthy claiming a wicket apiece.

An interesting talking point during the UAE’s innings happened when Suryakumar took a debatable call to withdraw India’s appeal of the run out of Siddique during the 13th over, which was bowled by Shivam Dube.

When running in to bowl the third ball of the over, Dube’s hand towel, which was tucked at his back waist, fell out on the ground. He didn’t realize and continued to bowl, sending down a bouncer. The batsman, Siddique, attempted a pull shot and missed it, the ball going through to wicket-keeper Sanju Samson.

Siddique then gestured to the umpires, pointing at the towel. But he forgot that he was still outside the crease. Samson took this opportunity and made a cheeky run out, akin to Jonny Bairstow’s controversial run out of Alex Carey during the Lord’s Test of the Ashes 2023.

The third umpire had a look, and Siddique was millimeters outside his crease when he was run out while still being agitated by being distracted by Dube’s falling towel.

The third umpire gave Siddique out, but Suryakumar Yadav withdrew India’s run out appeal, understanding that Siddique was distracted by the towel and was ruing over it after missing the delivery. He got good praise from the commentators and a section of fans.

However, some Indian fans were left befuddled and questioned SKY, but the Indian captain did what he felt was right. Check out the entire sequence of events in the video below.

Meanwhile, India made a mockery of the IND vs UAE contest, if it could be called a contest. The Men In Blue chased down the target of 58 runs in only 4.3 overs, with opener Abhishek Sharma blasting 30 runs off 16 balls and Shubman Gill thumping 20 runs off nine deliveries.

Kuldeep Yadav was the standoutMan of the Match for his figures of 4/7 in 2.1 overs.

India’s next match is the blockbuster India vs Pakistan contest, slated for Sunday in Dubai.
