England 11 vs South Africa announced: England have confirmed their XI for the opening ODI against South Africa at Headingley on Tuesday, with Somerset quick Sonny Baker set to make his international debut.
The side will be led by Harry Brook, who slots into the middle order alongside former captain Jos Buttler. Jamie Smith and Ben Duckett are entrusted with opening duties, while Joe Root, fresh from topping the run charts in the Test series against India, resumes his customary No. 3 role.
The attack features Jofra Archer and Brydon Carse alongside Baker, with Adil Rashid the lone frontline spinner. Will Jacks and Jacob Bethell are the all-rounding options who will add depth in both departments, giving England balance for their first white-ball assignment of the summer.
South Africa, captained by Temba Bavuma, will look to disrupt England’s home dominance in the three-match ODI series, which precedes a T20 leg. Leeds offers little assistance to spin, but Rashid’s inclusion provides variety, while Jacks and Bethell may also be called upon if conditions allow.
The fixture marks the first of six limited-overs games between the two sides this month, with the series shifting to Lord’s on September 4 before concluding at the Rose Bowl on September 7.
England XI: Jamie Smith, Ben Duckett, Joe Root, Harry Brook (c), Jos Buttler (wk), Jacob Bethell, Will Jacks, Brydon Carse, Jofra Archer, Adil Rashid, Sonny Baker.
