SmackDown in Chicago: On Sep 5, 2025, on an episode of SmackDown, AJ Lee made her long-awaited return to professional wrestling. She made her return during a segment between CM Punk, Seth Rollins, and Becky Lynch. Seth Rollins started the segment, stating that he and his wife, Becky Lynch, were there to end CM Punk. Lynch was then interrupted by CM Punk, and the crowd started chanting for “AJ Lee.”
Becky Lynch then started to slap CM Punk repeatedly, to which CM Punk replied, “I would never put my hands on a lady, thankfully, I got somebody who will.” After that, AJ Lee made her return and attacked the Intercontinental Champion, Becky Lynch. Rumors are that CM Punk and AJ Lee will face Becky Lynch and the World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins in a mixed tag team match at WrestlePalooza Premium Live Event.
John Cena kicked off the show, stating that this will be his last appearance on the SmackDown brand, and he is thankful for all the opportunities he has gotten on this brand. Cena was interrupted by the United States Champion Sami Zayn, who challenged Cena to a United States Championship match. Cena accepted the challenge, and the match began. During the final moments of the match, as Cena delivered the Super-AA and as he was about to win the title, we saw the return of “The Beast,” Brock Lesnar. Cena and Zayn were both attacked by Lesnar, ending the match in a no-contest.
After that, Alister Black defeated Damian Priest via pinfall, and the women’s United States Champion, Giulia, successfully defended her title by defeating Michin. During the show, it was confirmed that John Cena will face Brock Lesnar at WrestlePalooza on September 21, 2025.
