Shreyas Iyer Out of ICU, Stable After Spleen Injury

Shreyas Iyer remains under close medical supervision in Sydney but is recovering steadily from the spleen injury he sustained during the third ODI against Australia at the SCG. The 30-year-old India vice-captain has been moved out of intensive care, with the BCCI confirming his condition as “medically stable and recovering well.â€

The incident occurred when Iyer, fielding in the covers, dived to complete a sharp catch off Alex Carey. The impact caused internal bleeding and a laceration to his spleen, as scans later revealed. He was taken from the ground to hospital, where he has remained under the care of team doctor Dr Rizwan Khan and a local specialist team.

BCCI Comments of Shreyas Iyer Injury

A BCCI statement on Monday said:

“Shreyas Iyer sustained an impact injury to his left lower rib cage region while fielding during the third ODI against Australia in Sydney on October 25. He is under treatment, medically stable and recovering well. The BCCI Medical Team, in consultation with specialists in Sydney and India, is closely monitoring his injury status.â€

Family members are expected to travel from Mumbai once visa formalities are completed. For now, Iyer is likely to remain in Sydney for several more days, with no immediate timeline for his return to cricket. Those close to the situation suggest there will be no haste in bringing him back to action.

Iyer, who has been earmarked primarily for Indiaâ€s ODI squad, faces a race against time to recover before the upcoming home series against South Africa, beginning November 30.

The rest of the Indian side has moved on to Canberra for the opening T20I on October 29.
