PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Pace University Women’s Volleyball earned its fifth win of the season on Tuesday night, defeating Molloy University in straight sets (28-26, 25-21, 27-25) inside the Goldstein Fitness Center. The victory moves the Setters to 5-1 in the year.
The opening frame set the tone for a tight match, as the two teams battled through seven ties and two lead changes. Behind timely swings from Kadence Ackmann and Cyanna Shirley, the Setters were able to edge out the Lions in extra points, 28-26.
Pace carried its momentum into the second set, attacking at a .297 clip as a team. Jaliyah Johnson added several of her seven total kills, while Emily Cineus and Keelah Chambliss chipped in with consistent play at the net. Defensively, Alice Bender secured the back row with a match-high 21 digs, while Camila Rodriguez registered 11 digs to go along with 12 assists. The Blue and Gold used a late run to secure a 25-21 win and a two-set advantage.
The third frame proved to be the closest of the night, featuring eight ties and four lead changes. Ileann Alessandra Perez contributed three kills and five digs, while Ackmann and Shirley continued to provide steady offense. With the set extending into extra points once again, the Setters closed strong to clinch the sweep with a 27-25 triumph. With each passing set, the Blue and Gold continue to prove they are a team to watch, winning nine straight sets in their last three matches.
Overall, the Setters finished with 38 kills and 68 digs, while limiting Molloy to a .073 hitting percentage. Aralyn Saulys led the playmaking effort with 17 assists and four service aces.
The Setters look to continue their recent momentum this Friday at 6:00 p.m. with a road meeting against Dominican University of New York.
