The WWE departures of Scarlett Bordeaux and Karrion Kross are still being debated among passionate fans in the world of wrestling. Now that the happy couple is moving forward with their careers, they’re also revealing new happenings from both runs in the largest wrestling company in the world.
The Herald of Doomsday and The Smoke Show were let go by WWE on August 10 after Kross turned down a contract extension offer. In their new interview with INSIGHT’s Chris Van Vliet, Scarlett recalled how her husband approached Triple H back in January, telling the Chief Content Officer that both wanted to stay with WWE. Shortly after Kross and Scarlett were let go earlier this summer, word came down on how Kross’ contract extension offer did not include a spot for his wife. Van Vliet asked about these contract negotiations, and Bordeaux recalled thinking she was being used as leverage.
“So after you talked to the representative of Talent Relations about your contract… one of the last questions before the 24-hour notice was given, [Kross] asked where I stood in all these contract negotiations, and they said, ‘Weâ€ll get to her once weâ€re done with you,†which I took as them using me as leverage against him. I do feel like if he agreed within the 24 hours that they would have offered me something, would it have been the same amount as it was before? Would it have been less? I donâ€t know. But all in all, it felt like a massive, massive red flag, and I did feel like it did come off a bit misogynistic, because originally I was hired before you, and the idea that I have no value without him, and itâ€s only determined by whether or not he signs, that came off as very misogynistic to me,” Scarlett Bordeaux said.
Kross chimed in and remembered a similar situation during their first WWE run after the transition from NXT to RAW.
“I told you this a long time ago, but didnâ€t really ever publicly talk about this. When I signed to go from NXT to RAW, somebody said the exact same thing to me over the phone, and I asked her, I said, ‘What do you think?†At that time we had no reason to ever think it would be strange or go sideways, so I signed it, being told weâ€ll get to her after we get to you. I go up to RAW, then we go into like Mad Max and the Thunderdome, and sheâ€s at home. So I was like, well, Iâ€m not gonna do that again. We already saw exactly what happened with that,” Killer Kross said.
Scarlett Bordeaux made her in-ring WWE debut at RAW in June 2016, losing a squash to Nia Jax before she was a contracted talent. After signing in November 2019, Scarlett suffered a ruptured breast implant in a SmackDown dark match loss to Shotzi in June 2021, which was actually her first WWE match as a signed talent.
Continuing the interview with Chris Van Vliet on INSIGHT, the former MCW Rage Television Champion recalled how she and Kross were let go just 132 days after the dark match loss to her longtime friend and rival.
“I was clear to manage, but not wrestle. So at any point, I could have come up and done exactly what we did on NXT, but they said they wanted to separate us and wanted me to wrestle once I was clear after the breast augmentation that popped during that dark match. But then I was cleared, and it was a few days later that they actually fired both of us,” Scarlett Bordeaux said.
Kross saw his second NXT Championship reign end at NXT TakeOver: 36 on August 22, 2021. Also his first NXT loss, Kross was dethroned by Samoa Joe, but he had already debuted on RAW to much criticism and backlash from fans. Following the title loss to Joe, Kross was moved to RAW full-time, but without Scarlett, and their WWE release was handed down just 73 days after the call-up. Kross recalled an interesting backstage conversation from that night in August 2021 at the WWE Performance Center.
“She was at TakeOver when I wrestled Joe to drop the belt, she was ready to manage, and they told her, ‘Donâ€t go out.†Weâ€re just like, whatâ€s going on here? I was like, can we address this publicly? And they were like, ‘No, donâ€t talk about it.†I was like, This is bizarre,” Killer Kross said.
