Russell Wilson Says ‘It Was Time to Answer the Call’ After 450 Yards in Giants-Cowboys

Russell Wilson’s QB1 status was questioned by fans after a rough start to the season, but he deemed himself worthy of the starting job with a big performance against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.

Wilson threw for 450 yards and three touchdowns on 30-of-41 passing as the Giants fell just short against the Cowboys in overtime.

“It was time to answer the call,” Wilson told reporters after the game.

While it was a vintage performance from the veteran quarterback, he had some errors. The worst was an interception in overtime that led to Dallas marching down the field for a game-winning field goal.

Even with the loss and the late mistake, Wilson looked like a different quarterback than he was in Week 1. In the Giants’ season-opening loss to the Washington Commanders, he threw for just 168 yards on 17-of-37 passing.

Despite a rough performance to start the season, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Saturday that head coach Brian Daboll felt “no sense of urgency” to bench Wilson for rookie Jaxson Dart.

Wilson likely gained even more trust from his team on Sunday.
