Ronda Rousey Says WWE Will Erase Her From Women’s Wrestling History

Ronda Rousey parted ways with WWE after her match against Shayna Baszler at SummerSlam back in 2023, but there’s no doubt she’s been part of big moments in WWE. However, it seems that Rousey doubts her contributions will be appreciated.

While speaking on the Lapsed Fan podcast, Ronda Rousey was asked if she thinks she’ll get recognition as part of the story of women breaking the glass ceiling and becoming main eventers in WWE.

Rousey explained that she doesn’t know if she’ll be remembered as part of that history in 10 years, but she doesn’t really care, because women will still be main eventers regardless.

Rousey admitted she’s done a lot of bold, badass things behind the scenes that most people will never know about, but she does them for herself, not for credit. For her, it’s about the thrill of doing something epic in the moment, not about public recognition.

“I don’t know if I’ll be part of that story about how women are main eventers in 10 years. But I don’t give a f***, because women are gonna be main eventers in 10 years. I realized at one point, ‘Man, I do so much badass f***** gangster s*** that no one’s ever gonna know about,’ and then I realized why I do it. It’s because I get a kick out of doing badass gangster s***.”

Rousey said there are countless contributions she’s made that no one will know about, but she considers that part of her personal legacy. Even if not everyone appreciates what she’s done, she’s certain that everyone will benefit from the path she helped carve out.

“It’s not so people can see it and appreciate it—it’s so I can pop myself. Like, you know what’d be some badass gangster s*** to do right now? And then I go do it. There’s so much people will never know about my contributions. My legend is really just me experiencing it. Guys, you have no idea. I’m the most badass gangster b**** ever. So will everyone appreciate it? Probably not. Will everyone benefit from it? Yeah, they f****** will.”

It is to be noted that Rousey also believes that WWE’s women’s division is much better now that Vince McMahon is no longer in charge. Regardless, Rousey has also made it clear her pro wrestling career is over and fans will just have to accept that now.

What do you think about Ronda Rousey’s perspective on her WWE legacy? Do you believe she deserves more recognition for her contributions? Sound off in the comments.
