As Riley Patterson embarks on his second season post-draft, he’s hoping it won’t be with the OHL’s Barrie Colts.
The Vancouver Canucks prospect is skipping the Colts’ training camp and has asked to be traded to another OHL team, Peter Robinson of Barrie Today reported on Monday.
Last season’s top scorer told general manager Marty Williamson that he wanted a fresh start, according to Robinson, but Williamson insists there are no hard feelings.
“I still really like Riley,” Williams said.
The 19-year-old forward had 25 goals and 59 points in 64 games for the Colts last season, adding 12 points in 16 playoff games. He’s been with Barrie for the past two seasons.
Per Robinson, Patterson’s ice time was impacted by the Colts bringing in elite offensive talents via trades to speed up the team’s rebuild.
Patterson, a native of Etobicoke, Ont., was selected in the fourth round, 125th overall, at the 2024 NHL Draft by the Canucks and has yet to sign his entry-level deal.
