Priscilla Kelly says she pushed to revisit her indie character in WWE NXT, but the outcome didnâ€t even remotely resemble her pitch.
During a recent appearance on the Instinct Culture Podcast, the former Gigi Dolin recalled her back-and-forth with WWE creative as she tried to incorporate several elements of her indie persona.
“I tried my best to bring Priscilla Kelly into WWE; I really tried,†Priscilla Kelly said. “I would film a lot of these promos for the internal Performance Center website, and I would try to pitch these ideas. They would take my ideas, but a lot of times, the way their team would film it and execute it… to me, it just never felt like my work.
“Gigi Dolin feels like an entirely separate entity from Priscilla. To me, itâ€s a whole different character. There are elements of Priscilla in there, but at the end of the day, itâ€s completely separate.â€

“In WWE, it can be really hard to portray things the way you want them to look and the way you want them to be presented, because youâ€re not the one producing it. Youâ€re not always the one writing it. Youâ€re not always the one filming it.
“With all my independent stuff — the things I would make myself — it was me producing, me writing, me filming. Even all the promos Iâ€ve done, including the one I just did for MLW and a lot of the social media promos, my return promo… thatâ€s all me. Iâ€m the one directing it, Iâ€m the one writing it. Iâ€m doing everything.
“Itâ€s kind of like when you have a recipe thatâ€s your recipe, and you give it to somebody else. Itâ€s going to turn out different even if theyâ€re using the same ingredients. And I think thatâ€s what happened a lot of the time with WWE. I would give them my ideas, but then they would be the ones making it, so it always read different to me.
“And also, in WWE there are a lot more restrictions on what you can wear, what you can do, what you can say, how you can act. Sometimes it can be hard to let your authentic side show as well, because youâ€re portraying a character.â€
Priscilla Kelly returned to the independent circuit following her WWE departure. She is set to face fellow NXT alumna Shotzi at MLW x Don Gato Tequila: Live Special on November 20 in Charleston, South Carolina.
