Pat Murphy, Stephen Vogt Win NL, AL Manager Year 2025 Awards, Full MLB Voting Results

Pat Murphy of the Milwaukee Brewers and Stephen Vogt of the Cleveland Guardians are this year’s National League and American League Managers of the Year.

The BBWAA gave Murphy 27 of 30 first-place votes to win the award after he led the Brewers to MLB’s best record in 2025.

Vogt received 17 first-place votes to finish ahead of the John Schneider of the Toronto Blue Jays and Dan Wilson of the Seattle Mariners.

Murphy was hired as Milwaukee’s new manager in November 2023 after Craig Counsell’s surprise departure to take the same job with the Chicago Cubs. The 66-year-old had been on the coaching staff since 2016.

Prior to joining the Brewers, Murphy finished the 2015 season as the interim manager for the San Diego Padres after Bud Black was fired. He went 42-54 in 96 games.

It didn’t take long for Murphy to make a positive impact in Milwaukee. He led the Brewers to 93 wins and an NL Central title in his first season.

Despite not making any significant offseason additions, the Brewers were the best team in the NL throughout the 2025 regular season. They led all of MLB with 97 wins, setting a new franchise record.

The Brewers defeated the Cubs in five games in the NLDS for their first playoff series victory since 2018.

It’s rare for the same person to win Manager of the Year in consecutive seasons. This is only the second time it has happened in the NL since the award was introduced in 1983. Bobby Cox previously did it in 2004 and 2005 with the Atlanta Braves.

Murphy accomplished the feat in his first two seasons as a full-time manager. He is also the 16th manager in history to win this award multiple times.

The Guardians spent most of 2025 as an afterthought in the AL playoff race. They lost 10 straight games from June 26 through July 6 that dropped their record to 40-48, 15.5 games behind the Detroit Tigers in the AL Central.

From that point on, the Guardians went 48-26 and erased their deficit in the division. They clinched the AL Central on the final day of the regular season, marking the largest deficit any team has ever overcome to win a division title.

The previous record for largest deficit to win a division or league was the 1914 Boston Braves, who won the AL with a 94-59 record after trailing by 15 games.

It’s rare for the same person to win Manager of the Year in consecutive seasons. This is only the third time it has happened since the award was introduced in 1983. Vogt joins Bobby Cox (2004-05) and Kevin Cash (2020-21) to accomplish the feat.

Vogt is the first person to win the award in each of his first two seasons as a full-time manager. He was hired by the Guardians in November 2023 after Terry Francona retired from the club.

He is also the 16th manager in history to win this award multiple times. The Guardians have won this award five times since 2013 between Vogt and Francona (2013, 2016, 2022).
