P.J. Washington, Mavericks reportedly agree to 4-year, $90M contract extension

Dallas Mavericks forward P.J. Washington has agreed to a four-year, $90 million contract extension, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.

The deal, which will run through the 2029-30 NBA season, keeps another key player in Dallas after the Mavericks also re-signed Kyrie Irving and Daniel Gafford this summer.

Washington had one season left on a contract that was to pay him $14.1 million.

The 27-year-old Washington was the 12th overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft out of Kentucky. After spending parts of his first five seasons with the Charlotte Hornets, he was dealt to the Mavericks in Feb. 2024 and helped Dallas reach the NBA Finals that season.

Last season, Washington played 57 games and averaged 14.7 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.1 blocks and 1.1 steals per game in over 32 minutes a night. He shot 45.3% from the field and was a 38.1% shooter from 3-point range.

Washington was also one of only eight players last season to average at least 1 steal and 1 block among players with at least 50 games played.
