OHL Roundup: Taylor paces Petes to win over Steelheads

Caden Taylor’s power-play goal at 16:14 of the second period snapped a 2-2 deadlock and lifted the visiting Peterborough Petes to a 4-2 Ontario Hockey League victory over the Brampton Steelheads on Saturday.

Leon Kolarik and Francis Parish each had a goal and an assist for the Petes, while Carson Cameron also scored. Braydon McCallum chipped in with two assists for the visitors, who outshot the Steelheads 34-32.

Kieran Witkowski and William Eggleton scored for the Steelheads, who were tied 1-1 after the first period but trailed 3-2 heading into the third.

The Steelheads were 0-for-3 on the power play, while the Petes went 1-for-6.

Elsewhere in the OHL on Saturday:

BRANTFORD, Ont. — Caleb Malhotra scored twice and added three assists as the Brantford Bulldogs beat the visiting Sudbury Wolves 7-2.

Cooper Dennis scored twice for the Bulldogs, while Sam McCue, Adam Benak and Marek Vanacker netted singles. Benak added three assists, while Edison Engle and Aiden O’Donnell each added two assists.

Daniel Berehowsky and Brayden Bennett scored for the Wolves. Sudbury netminder Finn Marshall stopped 31 of 38 shots.

SAGINAW, Mich. — Ethan Miedema scored twice and added an assist as the visiting Guelph Storm defeated the Saginaw Spirit 7-3.

Illia Shybinskyi, Jaakko Wycisk, Rylan Singh, Carter Stevens and Parker Snelgrove also scored for the Storm. Leo Serlin, Charlie Paquette and Stevens each chipped in with two assists.

Storm netminder Zachary Jovanovski stopped 28 of 31 shots.

Nikita Klepov, Xander Velliaris and Egor Barabanov scored for the Spirit.

OWEN SOUND, Ont. — Jake Crawford scored twice and Harry Nansi had a goal and two assists as Owen Sound Attack defeated the visiting Kitchener Rangers 5-2.

Cole Zurawski and Tristan Delisle also scored for the Attack. John Banks and Masen Wray chipped in with two assists.

Jack Pridham and Haeden Ellis scored for the Rangers, who were outshot 32-29.

FLINT, Mich. — Charlie Robertson stopped 33 shots to earn the shutout as the visiting Niagara IceDogs beat the Flint Firebirds 4-0.

Grayson Tiller, Kevin He, Ethan Czata and Judd Knauft scored for the IceDogs. Riley Patterson added two assists.

Firebirds netminder Mason Vaccari stopped 20 of 24 shots.

BARRIE, Ont. — Beksultan Makysh scored twice as the visiting Windsor Spitfires edged the Barrie Colts 3-1.

Carter Hicks also scored for the Spitfires, who were outshot 32-29. Ethan Garden added two assists.

Spitfires netminder Joey Costanzo stopped 31 of 32 shots.

Gabriel Eliasson scored for the Colts. Barrie netminder Ben Hrebik stopped 26 of 29 shots.

ERIE, Pa. — Gabriel Frasca’s second goal of the game, scored at 1:36 of overtime, lifted the Erie Otters to a 4-3 win over the visiting London Knights.

McLean Agrette and Callum Hughes also scored for the Otters, who were outshot 31-25.

Otters goaltender Charlie Burns stopped 28 of 31 shots.

Jared Woolley scored twice for the Knights, while Linus Funck netted a single.

Knights netminder Sebastian Gatto stopped 21 of 25 shots.
