OHL Roundup: Sting rally to beat Battalion in overtime

Alessandro Di Iorio’s second goal of the game, scored 45 seconds into overtime, lifted the Sarnia Sting to a 6-5 Ontario Hockey League victory over the visiting North Bay Battalion on Sunday at Progressive Auto Sales Arena.

Easton Walos, Ben Pickell, Jack Van Volsen and Liam Beamish also scored for the Sting (6-8-3-1), who trailed 2-1 after the first period, but led 3-2 heading into the third. Mitch Young and Beckham Edwards each chipped in with two assists.

Lirim Amidovski scored twice for the Battalion (9-9-1-0), while Ihnat Pazii, Evgeny Dubrovtsev and Shamar Moses netted singles. Dubrovtsev added a pair of assists.

The Sting, who went 3-for-3 on the power play, were outshot 33-25. The Battalion went 2-for-7 on the power play.

Sting goaltender Charlie Larocque stopped 28 of 33 shots, while Mike McIvor stopped 19 of 25 shots for the Battalion.

KITCHENER, Ont. — Matthew Frost scored the winner early in the second period, Matthew Minchak made 31 saves, and the visiting Kingston Frontenacs edged the Kitchener Rangers 3-2.

Tyler Hopkins and Jacob Battaglia also scored for the Frontenacs (8-9-0-1), who were outshot 33-26. Kieren Dervin chipped in with two assists.

Alexander Bilecki and Luke Ellinas scored for the Rangers (12-4-2-0), who trailed 2-1 after the first period and 3-1 heading into the third.

The Rangers went 0-for-3 on the power play, while the Frontenacs were 0-for-2 with the man advantage.

BRANTFORD, Ont. — Cooper Dennis and Jake O’Brien scored in the shootout to lift the Brantford Bulldogs to a 4-3 win over the visiting Ottawa 67’s.

Marek Vanacker, Sam McCue and Dennis scored in regulation time for the Bulldogs (15-0-3-1), who outshot the visitors 31-26.

Nic Whitehead, Spencer Bowes and Jasper Kuhta scored for the 67’s (12-5-1-1), who trailed 1-0 after the first period. The second period was scoreless.

The Bulldogs went 1-for-3 on the power play, while the 67’s were 1-for-2.

OSHAWA, Ont. — Pierce Mbuyi scored three goals, Harry Nansi had four assists, and the visiting Owen Sound Attack beat the Oshawa Generals 5-3.

Braedyn Rogers and Tristan Delisle also scored for the Attack (13-6-0-2), who outshot the hosts 34-31. John Banks chipped in with three assists.

Anthony Timmerman, Harrison Franssen and Luke Posthumus scored for the Generals (5-14-0-0), who trailed 4-0 heading into the third period.

The Attack went 4-for-10 on the power play, while the Generals were 0-for-7.

Attack netminder Trenten Bennett stopped 28 of 31 shots, while Jaden Cholette stopped 29 of 34 shots for the Generals.

SUDBURY, Ont. — Aiden Young scored twice, Blake Gowan had two assists, and the visiting Peterborough Petes built a 5-1 second-period lead and then hung on to beat the Sudbury Wolves 5-4.

Adam Novotny, Colin Fitzgerald, and Yanis Lutz also scored for the Petes (9-7-1-1), who were outshot 38-29.

Rowan Henderson scored twice for the Wolves (4-14-1-0), while Nathan Villeneuve and Artem Gonchar netted singles. The Wolves trailed 2-0 after the first period and 5-1 heading into the third.

The Wolves went 1-for-2 on the power play, while the Petes were 0-for-1.
