Noah Lyles Anchors USA’s Gold-Medal Win in 4x100m Relay to Go Back-to-Back at Worlds

Noah Lyles blew past the competition on the anchor leg to bring a gold medal to the United States in the men’s 4×100-meter relay at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.

Christian Coleman got things started for the U.S. before handing the baton off to Kenny Bednarek. The third leg with Courtney Lindsey is when the Americans began to build a gap on Canada. Once Lyles took over, nobody was going to catch him.

The United States posted a time of 37.29 seconds, with Canada (37.55) and the Netherlands (37.81) rounding out the podium.

Lyles didn’t have the start to the 2025 Worlds he wanted. He settled for bronze in the 100 meters, finishing behind Jamaica’s Oblique Seville and Kishane Thompson. As the runner-up, Thompson got bragging rights in his ongoing rivalry with the American star.

Lyles rebounded in the 200 meters, beating Bednarek by 0.06 seconds for gold.

The 28-year-old didn’t run in the qualifying heats of the 100-meter relay. The quartet of Coleman, Ronnie Baker, Trayvon Brommel and T’Mars McCallum put up a time of 37.98 seconds, which was only fourth-best in the field but more than enough to secure a place in the final.

With its strongest team on the track in the deciding race, a gold medal was the expectation for Team USA.

The United States now has 16 golds and 26 total medals and will finish with a massive lead over Kenya, the next closest country with seven golds and 11 combined.

Lyles will have to wait to get his revenge on Seville and Thompson in the individual 100-meter dash, but he ended his time in Tokyo on a high.
