A new WWE World Heavyweight Champion was crowned tonight, and in spectacular fashion.
During Saturday Nightâ€s Main Event, CM Punk and Jey Uso went at it for the vacant title. In a back-and-forth bout, both men looked like they had tons of moments to win. In the end, though, Punk finally had his moment, defeating Uso to become the new champion.
Toward the end of the match, Punk and Uso began trading finishers, with the pair even trading finishers for a brief moment. Things got taken down to the ground soon after. Uso nearly submitted Punk in a Sleeper Hold before Punk flipped it into an Anaconda Vice. A move that Uso also got out of.
After the submission trade-off, things got even more chaotic. Uso delivered a few superkicks to Punk and looked ready to win, but Punk countered. He ended up hitting a GTS on Uso to close things out and become champion yet again.
For Punk, this is technically his second run with the current WWE World Heavyweight Championship. However, Punk infamously lost mere minutes after winning it the first time, as Seth Rollins cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase and contract on him.
There will be no Seth Rollins interference this time, though. With Rollins out at least a few months, Punk will look to have his first proper championship reign since his return to WWE.
