Mountain Hawks Drop Season-Opener To UConn

VESTAL, N.Y. – Lehigh volleyball opened its 2025 season with a 3-0 loss to UConn Friday in the opening match of the Bearcat Classic at Binghamton’s West Gym. Set scores were 26-24, 25-21 and 25-13 for the Huskies, who spoiled the head coaching debut of Shawn McLaughlin.

The first two sets were tightly contested. The Mountain Hawks raced to a 13-9 lead in set one, forcing UConn to call timeout. The Huskies battled back, capitalizing on nine Lehigh errors after the timeout to take the back-and-forth set 26-24.

Lehigh hit a match-best .333 in the second set, but UConn hit an impressive .435 to maintain a short lead throughout, eventually posting a four-point victory. The Huskies pulled away in the third set, scoring the first seven points and hitting .552 for the set to win by 12 and claim the season-opening sweep.

The Mountain Hawks hit .193 for the match. Junior Ufuoma Omene led Lehigh with nine kills, while classmate Alysia Fingall and first-year Mary Massias both added eight kills. Fingall hit .286.

Sophomore Sophia Bond and junior Abby Felkai both had seven digs to lead Lehigh. Felkai added 20 assists. Junior Olivia Lasee added three kills in five attacks and a pair of block assists.
