Mountain Hawks Bested By Navy 3-1
ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Lehigh volleyball concluded a three-match road swing on Saturday evening from Wesley A. Brown Field House against the Navy Midshipmen. The Mountain Hawks dropped a 3-1 decision to the Mids.
Lehigh (9-11, 3-8 PL) started the match strong, gaining an early lead over Navy (10-10, 6-5 PL). The Mountain Hawks held a 12-6 lead in the beginning stages of the set before putting themselves in striking distance with a 19-12 advantage. The Mids then began to rally, tying the match at 21-21 after a 9-2 run. From there, Navy scored the final four points of the set to win 25-21.
Navy picked up where they left off in the second, jumping ahead to a 9-3 lead. The Mids held control of the set the whole way, leading by as many as nine points. While Lehigh would pull to within four, Navy managed to win 25-20 to take a 2-0 lead.
Needing a set win to survive, the Mountain Hawks found a win in set three. Lehigh held Navy to a .077 hitting percentage and connected on a match-high 14 kills in the frame to extend the match. However, the Mids closed the door shut on the Mountain Hawks in the fourth, hitting .345 in the set on route to a 25-15 win.
The Mountain Hawks were led offensively by senior Natalie Luscomb and junior Ufuoma Omene with 11 kills each. Junior Abby Felkai provided a team-high 21 assists while junior Olivia Lasee led the way with seven total blocks.
Ava Toppin and Caroline Buffum paced the Midshipmen with 11 kills apiece.
The Mountain Hawks return home to Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall on Friday, October 31 at 7 p.m. for a Halloween clash against Lafayette in The Rivalry, presented by Lehigh Valley Orthopedic Institute, part of Jefferson Health.
