Mohammed Siraj Becomes ICC Men Player of the Month August 20…

On 15 September 2025, Mohammed Siraj was named as the ICC Menâ€s Player of the Month for August 2025. He earned the award for his match-winning performance in the final Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy at The Oval. Siraj took 9 wickets in the match at an average of 21.11, including a five-wicket haul in the second innings. His efforts helped India win that Test match and level the series 2-2.Â

Siraj bowled 46 overs in that match and was also named Player of the Match. He was Indiaâ€s leading wicket-taker in the series with 23 wickets across five tests, including two five-wicket hauls. He beat New Zealandâ€s Matt Henry and West Indies†Jayden Seales to win the monthly award.

Siraj called the honor special and said the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy was one of the most intense series he had played. He credited his teammates and support staff for their belief and encouragement. His performance also pushed him to a career-best ranking in the ICC Menâ€s Test Bowler Rankings. Sachin Tendulkar also praised him, saying his contributions were crucial and often unappreciated.

Why is Mohammed Siraj not playing in the Asia Cup 2025

Siraj is not playing in the Asia Cup 2025 because the selectors did not include him in Indiaâ€s squad. Even though he was Indiaâ€s top wicket-taker in the recent England Test series, the pace attack for the Asia Cup was already set with Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh as first-choice bowlers. The third pace option was decided between Harshit Rana and Prasidh Krishna, which left no room for Siraj.

The selectors might also have wanted to give Siraj some rest because of his busy schedule across all three formats in recent months. Hardik Pandya was also included as an all-rounder who also contributes with the ball, reducing the need for another pacer in the Indian squad. Veteran Mohammed Shami was also left out for the same reason.

The Asia Cup 2025 is scheduled to be played in Dubai and Abu Dhabi from September 9 to 28. Former Indian cricketer Chetan Sharma said the squad would reflect the best of Indian cricket and backed the team to win the tournament.
