Veteran Indian pacer Mohammed Shami has been traded from the Sunrisers Hyderabad to the Lucknow Super Giants ahead of the upcoming IPL 2026 season in an all-cash deal worth around Rs. 10 crore.
Shami is one of the best Indian Cricket Team fast bowlers of the last decade. Shami has been a crucial all-format player for the national team, but he has faced challenges such as injuries, age, and a decline in form over time.
Mohammed Shami Traded From SRH To LSG
However, that does not stop him from playing domestic cricket all year round. This means that he is still one of the most high-profile Indian pacers around. That applies to the IPL as well, where he is always a hot commodity.
Ahead of the IPL 2025 season, Mohammed Shami fell into the mega-auction pool and was picked up by the Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs. 10 crore. A hefty price in a mega-auction, but it seemed to be worth it. But that did not turn out to be the case.
In IPL 2025, the 25-year-old was severely out of form. Having recovered from a long stint with injury, Shami had a disastrous season for the Sunrisers, playing nine games and taking only six wickets at a dismal economy of 11.23 and an average of 56.17.
While Mohammed Shamiâ€s poor performances were not the only reason for SRH failing to make it to the playoffs last season, they were certainly a contributing factor. And so, it appears that the Hyderabad-based franchise was looking to offload the veteran pacer.
Another team that did not have the best time in IPL 2025 was the Lucknow Super Giants. Marred by injuries and falling out of form, this team finished seventh last season and especially struggled with a weakened bowling attack due to several injuries.
Ahead of IPL 2026, LSG must have been in the market for an attack-leading fast bowler. And so, when they got the chance to secure one even before the auction, they grabbed it.
Mohammed Shami has officially been traded from the Sunrisers Hyderabad to the Lucknow Super Giants in an all-cash deal worth around the same amount as his auction price from last season, Rs. 10 crore.
This is the latest in a long list of trades being made before the IPL 2026 retention deadline on November 15. However, the trades can go on after that date, too, right up until the auction on December 15.
