Mammoth prospect Tij Iginla cleared for contact after double hip surgery

Tij Iginla is ready to put an injury-riddled season behind him.

The Utah Mammoth prospect told NHL.com’s Tom Gulitti at the NHLPA Rookie Showcase that he is ready to begin training camp after being cleared for contact following double hip surgery last season.

Iginla, the son of former NHLer Jarome Iginla, saw his junior season cut short in December when he had the operation.

Iginla participated in the Mammoth’s development camp in July, skating in a no-contact jersey and saw his strength coming back.

“I feel good,” Iginla told reporters at the time. “Just working back and sticking to the process, but it’s going well. I’m having fun.”

The 19-year-old had 14 goals and 32 points in 21 games with the Kelowna Rockets in 2024-25. He had also appeared in two pre-season games with Utah, recording an assist while averaging 12:24 of ice time per game.

Utah took Iginla sixth overall in the 2024 NHL Draft.

Now heading into his second training camp with the team, the young forward believes he’s put himself in a better position to try to make the team.

“Through the summer, keep getting stronger,” Iginla explained about his preparation for the season. “More powerful, all of that stuff from (the) weight room side of things. And then keep honing my skills on the ice and just go into camp as ready as I can. Try to give myself the best chance that I can to make the team.”
