Lehigh Bests Navy In Four Sets At Home

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh volleyball welcomed the Navy Midshipmen to Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall on Friday evening in the team’s first home match since September 13. The Mountain Hawks put on a show for the home crowd, defeating the Midshipmen in four sets.

Lehigh (8-6, 2-3 PL) held an early 8-5 in the first set over Navy (5-9, 1-4 PL) before a 7-0 run by the Mids propelled them ahead 12-8. The Mountain Hawks then pulled back, leading to a tight middle of the set that rarely saw either team separated by more than two points. The Mids again began to pull away in the latter stages of the frame, reaching set point at 24-22. However, a late 4-0 Lehigh run allowed the Mountain Hawks to take set one.

Both offenses hit at high percentages in the second set, with Navy hitting .355 to Lehigh’s .303. The Midshipmen took control midway through the period and rode a 12-4 run to reach a commanding 23-16 lead. The Mountain Hawks managed to bring their deficit to within three, but the Mids held on to win 25-20 to even the match at one set apiece.

Lehigh again started strong in the third, holding a six-point advantage at 14-8. Navy would manage to cut the lead to one, but the Mountain Hawks led virtually wire-to-wire to win the third set 25-21 and take a 2-1 lead in the match. In the fourth set, the Mountain Hawks held Navy to a .188 hitting percentage and won 25-17 to clinch a second-straight Patriot League win.

Senior Natalie Luscomb led Lehigh in kills with 14 while hitting at a .294 clip. First-year Mary Massias tallied 11 kills on an efficient .400 hitting percentage to join Luscomb in double-digits. Junior Abby Felkai dished out 32 assists in her third consecutive 30+ assist performance. Defensively, sophomore Sophia Bond led the way with 16 digs while junior Olivia Lasee’s six total blocks paced the Mountain Hawks.

Navy was led offensively by Farrah Eike with a game-high 18 kills.

The Mountain Hawks are back in action at Leeman-Turner Arena on Saturday, October 4 at 4 p.m. against American University for the team’s Dig Pink game.
