The Wellsboro Junior High Volleyball team swept Athens Wednesday night to improve to 5-3.
“The girls played their best match so far this season. Athens was worthy competition and we rose up and excelled,” head coach Valery Weaver said. “I’m so proud of their effort.”
The young Lady Hornets held on for a 25-23 win in the first set before taking the second, 25-16.
Harper Bourret led Wellsboro with 20 points and 12 aces while Rachel Weaver scored 5 points (3 aces) to go along with a dig and an assist. Reese Eckart had 2 kills and a dig, Nora Mickey added 3 points and an ace, and Alexis Dunning pitched in 3 assists.
Athens won the B game 25-22 and 25-12. Emma McConaghy had 5 points and an ace and Ella Satalin also scored 5 points (2 aces).
Wellsboro is back in action Saturday morning at Sayre.
